"MOTU FATALITY.
When Mr Michael McCormack, who was accidentally shot in the leg while pig-hunting at Motu, was admitted to the hospital early yesterday morning, it was found that the unfortunate man was in a serious condition, due to the great loss of blood he suffered. In the afternoon inquiries elicited the information that there were hopes for his recovery, but during the evening the patient collapsed, and died shortly before 9 o'clock.
Deceased was a married man, about 40 years of age. He was working for some time on the Gisborne-Motu railway, and latterly had been employed on the Motu-Opotiki road. Sergeant Hutton communicated with the District Coroner (Mr W. A. Barton. S.M.) at Wharerata to-day, and as the deceased had been fully conscious before his death, and had given an accurate account of how the accident happened, it was decided that no inquest was necessary."6Information provided by Dorothy Giles, 19-Aug-2007; email to Jim Cosgrave.
