"REV DR SALTUS DEAD AT CONCORD, N H
Special Dispatch to the Globe CONCORD, N.H., Aug 2 - Rev Amasa Saltus, a widely-known clergyman of the Protestant Episcopal Church in New Hampshire, died at his home here today. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Oct 3 1859, and was the son of Nicholas and Maria Seymour (Sanford) Saltus. The late Edgar Saltus, famous novelist and critic, was his brother.
He was educated at St. Paul's School in this city and at the Columbia University Law School. He also studied law in the office of Anderson and Mann, New York, and was admitted to the bar of that state in 1883.
Later he began the study of theology with the Rev Dr Henry A. Colt rector of St. Paul's School. From 1894 to 1898 he was curate at St. Mark's, Orange, NJ and the House of Prayer, Newark, N.J.
For the past 25 years, until his health failed, he had filled various posts in this city and vicinity. Rev. Dr Saltus was a member of Rumford Grange, Patrons of Husbandry.
Ardently devoted to out-of-door recreation he had served as president of the local fish and game league. For three years he was chaplin of the First Regiment, New Hampshire National Guard.
In 1886 he married in Bayonne, N.J., to Miss Louisa Smith Pickslay, who died a few years ago.
