"FLIGHT LT. J. A. KIRKCALDIE
Flight Lieutenant John Allan Kirkcaldie, whose death occurred in Wellington on Saturday, was born at Khandallah in 1905, and prior to his enlistment in the R.N.Z.A.F. was farming in New Zealand, Argentina, and Western Australia. Before the war he was a sheep farmer at Makara. He obtained his "A" pilot's licence, and by November, 1937, he had 118 flying hours to his credit. When he offered his. services at the outbreak of war, Flight Lieutenant Kirkcaldie had completed 400 hours of solo flying, and had also passed his "B" licence examinations and night-flying tests. He was commissioned as.a pilot officer on December 6, 1939, and posted to Communications Flight, Rongotai, and rose to Flight Lieutenant by July 1, 1942. A brother, Pilot Officer Kenneth Kirkcaldie, was killed in operations over France in November, 1940. Flight Lieutenant Kirkcaldie was educated at the Wanganui Collegiate School. His mother is Mrs. K. A wedding of much interest was celebrated this afternoon at St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral, When a member of a well-known Wellington family, Mr. John Kirkcaldie, eldest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Herbert Kirkcaldie, Kelburn, was married to Miss Molly Anderson, daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. Anderson, Wanganui. The Rev. Canon Percival James officiated. The bride, who was escorted by Mr. A. T. Markman, wore a beautiful gown of deep cream satin with appliques of the satin embroidered in seed pearls in a floral design, and a veil and train of Brussels lace. She carried a sheaf of deep cream long-stemmed roses. The bridesmaids, Misses Dorothy Drew, Alison Kirkcaldie, and Shirley Markman, wore frocks of dainty flowered organdie in powder blue, rose pink, and primrose respectively, with capelets of taffeta, and wide hats to match. They carried Victorian posies. Mr. Kenneth Kirkcaldie was best man and Mr. Dudley Reid groomsman. Mrs. Herbert Kirkcaldie (mother of the bridegroom) wore a frock of wine-coloured georgette and a black tricorne hat with winecoloured feather. She carried a bouquet of crimson roses. Mrs. Baddeley (sister of the bride) wore a navy blue French frock with hat to match, and her bouquet was in cream and rose pink shades. Mrs. A. T. Markman, who afterwards held a reception for the bride, was in an ensemble of maroon marocain, and carried a bouquet to tone. Other relatives at the church included Mrs. John Kirkcaldie (senior), Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Kirkcaldie, Mrs. R. J. Loe, Mrs. Finch, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Kirkcaldie, Mr. and Mrs. Rattray, Mr.and Mrs. Mirams; Mrs. Norman Kirkcaldie, Mr. and Mrs. N. Blair, Miss Markman, Mrs. F. Markman, Mrs. Norman Gibbons, Mrs. Drew, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. A. Williams, Misses L. and J. Hall. There were also many friends of both families, from both town and country, present. The bride travelled in a suit and hat of Lido blue."
