DEATHS.
KIRKCALDIE.—On July 28th, 1917. at his residence, Khandallah, Herbert Allan Kirkcaldie, second son of John Kirkcaldie, of Wellington; aged 42 years. Private interment."

4Newspaper - Evening Post, Volume XCIV; Issue 24; Page 8, 28 Jul 1917.
"DEATH OF MR. H. B. KIRKCALDIE
Profound regret was felt by the many friends in both business and private capacities of Mr. Herbert B. Kirkcaldie on learning of his death. He had been suffering from an attack of influenza, and had felt so far recovered that he returned to business, but, apparently, this was too premature, as he was taken ill again, and pleurisy set in. From this attack he did not recover, and he died last night at his residence at Khandallah, in the'prime'of life, it may be said, for he was but 42 years of age. The late Mr. Kirkcaldie was born in Wellington, and educated at Wellington and Wanganui Colleges. His scholastic education completed, he entered the firm of Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd., and was its secretary and also a partner at. the time of his death. The late Mr. Kirkcaldie is survived by his wife (who is a daughter of Mr. Anthony Stubbs, formerly of the Railway Department) and three sons and a daughter. Mr. Kirkcaldie, being of a most kindly disposition, made many friends within and without the firm. He was generally regarded too, as a business man of great ability. Although frequently approached, on the subject, he declined to take any leading part in public affairs, but he showed a lively interest in the activities of the Onslow Borough, particularly in the proposed water-supply proposals; and he always endeavoured to advance the best interests of the district in which he resided. His death at so comparatively an early age removes one of Wellington's most promising citizens and general welfare workers."

"OBITUARY
MRS. HERBERT KIRKCALDIE.
Friends throughout New Zealand will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Herbert Kirkcaldie, widow of Mr. Herbert Allan Kirkcaldie, of Wellington, which took place at her home in Wadestown on Thursday. Mrs. Kirkcaldie had suffered from ill health for some years, but her death was unexpected. Mrs. Kirkcaldie was formerly Miss Kathleen Stubbs, of Hawke's Bay, She was interested in-all cultural pursuits, particularly art and travel. A much-travelled person herself she was for some time chairman of the women's committee of the Overseas League. She was also a member of the Academy of Fine Arts, the Victoria League, and the Royal Empire Society, and was at one time a committee member of the Navy League. Mrs. Kirkcaldie, however, led a retired life during recent years owing to her long illness. Of her four children, two sons lost their lives during the war. Pilot Officer Kenneth Kirkcaldie was killed on active service overseas, and Flight Lieutenant John Kirkcaldie died as the result of an air accident in New Zealand. The surviving members of the family are Mrs. Kirkcaldie's only daughter, Mrs. Parkes Warmington, wife of Wing Commander Parkes Warmington, R.A.F., and Flying Officer David Kirkcaldie, R.N.Z.A.F."
