"OBITUARY
MR J. C. MACKLEY.
Mr J. C. Mackley, whose death occurred recently, was born in 1849 at Gravesend, Kent, England. He arrived at Victoria with his parents at the age of 10 years and spent two years at the time of the gold rush at Bendigo, eventually going with his parents in 1861 to Port Chalmers where he resided for about 35 years. Mr Mackley was closely associated with the freezing industry from its inception, and was the supervisor of the preparation and shipping or the first line of frozen meal sent Home from New Zealand in the sailing ship Dunedin in 1882. He was also the first man in New Zealand to take up the manufacture of explosives, and established a factory at Owaka. Later he joined the Southland Frozen Meat Company as works manager, which position he held for 15 years, leaving that to take up the position as general manager of a meat freezing and chilling company in Australia. He returned to New Zealand and took up land in Southland, and joined the Lands and Survey Department at Invercargill, a position which he retained until he retired and took up his residence in Wellington. Mr Mackley leaves a widow, eight sons, and four daughters."

Wedding at Johnsonville
A very pretty wedding look place on July 17 at St. John's Church, Johnsonville, when Miss Annie Pickin, youngest daughter of Mrs. Pickin, of Johnsonville, was married to Mr. Osmond Mackley, fifth son of Mr. G. H. Mackley, of Invercargill. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. F. H. Petrie, the church being prettily decorated for the occasion. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Alfred Pickin, wore a gown of silk eolienne trimmed with real lace and pearls, with the usual veil and orange blossoms, and carried a shower bouquet of freesias and autumn leaves. She was attended by Miss Constance Ball, in a very pretty gown of silk taffetas, and a large black hat trimmed with cord and white feathers, and Misses Isabel Blandford and Myrtle Coman (nieces of the bride) who wore frocks of white silk and hats to match. They carried bouquets of violets and maidenhair fern, and Miss Ball carried a shower bouquet of freesias and autumn leaves. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Len Pickin, brother of the bride. After the ceremony a reception was held at the. residence of the bride's mother, a large number of guests being present. The usual toasts were honoured. Mr. and Mrs. Mackley left for Wellington, en route for the north, the bride wearing a navy blue tailor-made costume, with hat en suite.".

Mrs. Caroline Ellis Pickin died yesterday at the residence of her son, Mr. S. Pickin, Taringamotu. Mrs. Pickin, who had lived at Johnsonville until a few months ago, arrived in New Zealand 71 years ago, landing at Petone Beach, Well ington. She married in Wellington and nine of her thirteen children are still living. Mrs. Pickin was sister of Sir Henry White, private solicitor to the Roya! Family, who died about two years ago."

The death of a well-known resident of Johnsonville, Mrs. Caroline Alice Pickin, took place at the residence of her son, Mr. Sydney Pickin, at Taringamotu, near Taumarunui, where she had been staying recently. Mrs. Pickin came to New Zealand seventy-one years ago with her parents, and was married at tho age of twenty. She spent the first few years of her life at Featherston, then came to Khandallah, living later at Johnsonville for thirty years. One brother, Mr. Henry White, was a solicitor to the Royal Family, and the other brother, Mr. Charles White, passed away a few months ago. Her sister, Mrs. Edwards, of Khandallah, is the only surviving member of the family. Mrs. Pickin will be missed by a large circle of friends. She leaves nine of her thirteen sons and daughters and many grandchildren."
